How To Create Alerts

Follow this guide for creating your own custom alerts on TradingView.

*Buzz* *Buzz* Hello?

Alerts create a way for you to be quickly notified when a set condition is met. TradingView alerts can return pop-ups notifications, audio signals, send text messages, or even custom web-hook notifications.

Creating An Alert

In order to create an alert you'll need to make sure you have the indicator you want to set an alert to active on your chart. You can create a new alert from the alert manager menu or by clicking on the alarm icon appearing at the top of the toolbar.

You can also use the shortcut "Ctrl + a" to create a new alert

This will open the alert creation. The Condition section is used to create the alert condition; you will usually have the options to choose between multiple alert conditions.

The Options section tells you the frequency at which the alert will trigger. Only Once will trigger once the condition is initially met, Once Per Bar will trigger the first time a condition is initially met but only once per bar, Once Per Bar Close work similarly to Once Per Bar but will only trigger at the close of the bar.

It is recommended to use Once Per Bar Close in order to make sure if the condition was met on the chart and the signal was painted. If the indicator you are setting an alert on is making use of the opening price you should use Once Per Bar instead of Once Per bar Close.

Placeholders

You can further customize your alert with the "Alert Action", "Alert Name", and "Alert Message" options.

Putting placeholders in these fields allows TradingView to return the value of a variable in an alert message. This variable can be the closing price of a symbol ({{close}}), the time frame of the chart the alert is created on ({{interval}}), and more. For further information on placeholders visit here.

Warning Message

When you create an alert using certain indicators such as Flowscript Long/Short, you might see a warning message. This is caused by internal Pinescript functions used in the script that may have a repainting behavior when set in a specific way.

The alerts provided by the FlowTrader Flowscript indicators do not repaint and as such, you can click on "continue anyway".

Text Messages

When you're on the go, one of the most convenient ways to receive alerts is through text message. While TradingView does not have a way to send message directly through SMS, there is a work-around.

Choose "Send Email-to-SMS." This allows TradingView to send an email alert to this address which is then routed directly to your phone. If your cellular carrier is not among the list below, please contact an Administrator.
